Sestosenso showcased its latest OptoSkin and ProxySkin prototypes at the European Robotics Forum (ERF) 2025 from March 25th to the 27th, 2025, in Stuttgart, Germany, at booth #87. We explored our cutting-edge solutions for human-robot interaction and tactile sensing.
OptoSkin – A large-area, electrode-free optical touch and pressure sensor revolutionizing robotic interfaces.
ProxySkin – A multi-modal robotic skin designed for enhanced safety and intuitive human-robot collaboration.
On February 18, 2025, Alessandro Albini from Oxford University presented the Sestosenso project at the AIoD & ADRA 2025 event in Brussels, Belgium.
The event brought together experts in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data, and Robotics, fostering discussions on the future of AI-driven technologies in Europe. During his presentation, Alessandro Albini showcased Sestosenso’s innovative approach to human-robot collaboration, emphasizing how the project’s technologies enhance safety, efficiency, and trust in smart industrial environments.
His presentation sparked engaging discussions on the impact of advanced AI and robotics solutions in real-world applications, highlighting Sestosenso’s role in shaping the future of human-centric automation.
On February 12-13, 2025, the Sestosenso project participated in the A&T (Automation & Testing) 2025 fair in Turin, Italy, a key event for innovation in robotics, automation, and industry 4.0.
At our booth, we showcased the latest prototypes of ProxySkin and OptoSkin, demonstrating cutting-edge tactile sensing solutions for human-robot interaction and industrial applications.
The Sestosenso team at UL participated at the International Trade Fair for Automation and Mechatronics (IFAM), which took place in Ljubljana, Slovenia, between February 11th and 13th. Being one of the leading fairs of its kind in Slovenia, IFAM provides a space to present recent technological developments and to establish connections between industry professionals. Our booth was part of a larger exhibit, hosted by the SRIP (Strategic Research and Innovation Partnership) Factories of the Future cluster. It featured a live demo of the UL Optoskin (Softskin) demonstrator, which visitors were able to interact with.
We are thrilled to share our participation in the ADRF 2024 (Advanced Digital and Robotics Forum). This event, held as a hub of cutting-edge research and technological advancements, was the perfect platform to present our latest innovations and ideas.
As part of the forum, we showcased two groundbreaking prototypes developed within the Sestosenso project: Proxyskin and Optoskin.
ISSP UL and UNIGE showcased two demonstrators during the event. ISSP UL showcased a demonstrator of Optoskin - innovative large-area, electrode-free optical tactile sensor. UNIGE showcased invention Proxiskin - a novel sensory system based on miniaturized proximity and tactile sensors be integrated across the robot body, enabling unified perception of the environment.
The International Trade Fair (MOS) is being held every year in Celje, Slovenia, and is the largest technological fair in the country. Between September 18th and 22nd, the UL Softskin prototype, developed within the Sestosenso project, was presented as part of a display containing various prototypes and inventions from the University of Ljubljana. A demo video with a short presentation was playing during the entire duration of the exhibition to provide a brief overview of our tasks and achievements.
Three distinguished scientists - Dr. Alessandro Albini from the University of Oxford (UK), Dr. Jelizaveta Konstantinova from Ocado Technology, and Prof. Giorgio Cannata from the University of Genova (Italy) - gave seminars about touch sensors and robotics at ISSP that were also streamed online. Their visit we made possible by the HE project Sestosenso. The talks are now available online.
Sestosenso achieved an exhibit spot on ICRA 2024, in which we showed some of the results of consortium to the attendees. We also had a demonstrator of a tactile sensor that people could use and experiment with. We raised awareness and interest in our contributions.
On May 13th, we organized a workshop within ICRA 2024, ProxyTouch: Whole-body Proxy-Tactile Architectures for Industrial and Service Applications, focused on the fusion of tactile and proximity sensing from the hardware level up to robotic perception and control algorithms to enhance safety and enable proficient manipulation tasks in unstructured environments.
Sestosenso promoted their latest technical contributions at ExoBerlin 2024, between May 16th and 17th 2024, in which we showed a technical demonstrator of Softskin, a tactile and pressure sensor developed by our partner at the University of Ljubliana within the framework of Sestosenso.
On March 15th, we organized a joint workshop between Sestosenso and Convince Project addressing Safe Adaption for Long Term Autonomy and Human-Robot Interaction at the European Robotic Forum 2024 in Rimini-Italy. We explored shared challenges between the two projects in achieving safe robot autonomy, where showcased our initial results.
The Perceive Sestosenso online workshop has taken place on June 9th, involving partners, stakeholders and interested third parties. The workshop has included insights into the Sestosenso project, talks by our invited speakers, and engaging discussions.
