Printed electronic skin

The PeSkin concept is based on additively manufactured capacitive tactile sensor arrays. The fully screen printed tactile sensor arrays can be applied to a variation of flexible and conformable substrates, resulting in thin and lightweight sensor skins for multitouch detection and measurement of forces applied onto the sensor skin. A modular design of the sensor system with miniaturized readout electronic circuits provides flexibility and allows for using customized designs with acquisition of the monitored data from an arbitrary number of sensors. PeSkin can be used for pressure sensing in various application areas, for example within robotics.
The CySkin+ concept is also based on screen printed electronic skins, aiming to replace the conducting Lycra skins currently being used. Various flexible and conformable substrates can be used to carry the screen printed electronic skin, which, after being laminated onto the already existing CySkin electronic PCB-modules, results in low-cost capacitive tactile sensor arrays with maintained sensitivity and ease of integration. Similarly to the CySkin concept, CySkin+ can be used for multitouch detection of applied forces in various applications, for example within robotics.
